Andy Warhol's 'Red Disaster' as a GIF
12 frames, all taken as mechanically as possible from his silk screen. Part of a research paper I'm working on. Notice anything interesting?

Doodle from last night
This one's kind of a weird one; I've been thinking a lot about the idea of bodily presence in visual art lately, especially with regards to my ongoing painting, Host. I tend to perceive particular shapes as having a living presence sometimes, and so with this I was trying to point out which towers/prisms were reading as lifeforms by adding synecdoche via eyes (eyeball art, lol). I also was thinking a lot about James Rizzi, a pop artist I recently discovered via the music videos for the Tom Tom Club. Though he was not involved, the animators were working from his style, kind of like a backwards Peter Max/Yellow Submarine situation. Also, this week Nam June Paik is my hero. Pardon the Russian.
To add a few more thoughts, I recently found out that my favorite webcomic Cat and Girl has not only a four-page discussion of the effects of digital photography on society here, but also a short discussion on my current obsession, the atomization of culture.

Thursday Illusions
If you're visiting the site to see my example videos mentioned in my King Creativity Grant application, please scroll to the post below this one. Thanks!
This week has been fairly productive for me, especially for the development of my current painting, Landscape Piece (4th from the top). Outside of that, I've been really into optical effects pertaining to 3D lately, as evidenced by the tilt-GIF bee below.
The op-art pastiche painting at the bottom of this post is part of a test that incorporates anaglyph-like 3D into a painted surface via flashing colored lights. I can't test it right now because there are critiques in the studio all afternoon and evening, but maybe tonight I'll have a chance to give it a shot. Other than that, enjoy the doodles and keep watching this space!

Below are three full videos of my first projection paintings. The colors are difficult to capture on video, but these clips give the general impression. I hope you enjoy them, and feel free to leave any comments you might have.

Links? OH NO
I'm turning into one of "those" blogs.
Below is a collection of links to artists that fascinate me right now, just in case anyone's interested. Not everything is in the "art scene," but it is all very visual and contemporary.
http://lucylou.livejournal.com/
Lucy Lou: Comic artist, blogger, cat owner. Love the line work and subtle use of color.
http://www.ambergriscomics.com/
Ambergris Comics! The Underground Comix of tomorrow, TODAY!
http://pengoat.com/
Panayiotis Terzis: Similar.
http://www.tommoody.us/
Tom Moody: Artist and writer, one of the thinkers at the forefront of confronting the use of digital imagery in art.
http://www.beigerecords.com/cory/
Cory Arcangel is one of the big names in multimedia art these days. Known for his unorthodox visual art, I would argue that he seems to be leaning more musical these days.

A weird fashion website I discovered a few nights ago. Interesting concepts for shirt collars, otherwise just hipster, but fun to peruse. NSFW.
