    (Note the speaker's use of the passive to discredit his own volition, typical of Wildean speech and the Aesthetic movement of the 1890's generally).

  2. Not amazingly. There was this wonderful stunned silence for about five minutes where everyone was watching the piece and enjoying it. However, the following commentary became so caught up in the paintings' failings (in the way that I had anticipated, although to a lesser extent) that we ran out of time before anyone *got* it.

    I guess if I've learned anything from this one, it's that concepts have durations, and not everyone is willing to take the time to understand them.
